Rick has over 40 years of nonprofit leadership experience as a nationally-known nonprofit executive search consultant and nonprofit chief executive officer.
He is the company’s second President, following the founder, Jim Kittleman, in 1985. He has served as the lead consultant on hundreds of searches for chief executive officers as well as for senior-level management leaders for nonprofit organizations and institutions. He is a well-known consultant and educator in nonprofit leadership transition planning and is the author of From Making a Profit to Making a Difference, the seminal book written on the topic of business career transition into nonprofit sector leadership.
Prior to joining Kittleman, Rick served as the chief executive officer of three public charities: a national network of interdisciplinary primary care medical facilities designed to demonstrate the positive outcomes of integrating physical, emotional and spiritual components in healthcare delivery; a statewide association of private and public youth service agencies that provided counseling, substance-abuse
treatment and educational alternatives for youthful offenders; and a comprehensive community-based youth counseling and treatment agency affiliated with a suburban Chicago hospital.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology/Sociology from Illinois Wesleyan University, a Master of Social Work degree from Florida State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Dominican University.
His nonprofit governance experience includes the Board of Trustees of Dominican University and Illinois Wesleyan University, the Board of Directors of the First Nonprofit Insurance Companies, Network of Nonprofit Search Consultants, American Public Garden Association and Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation where he created and now leads the Future Philanthropists Program. He is also co-founder of the Three Pillars Initiative, a national organization which teaches the art, science, and business of philanthropy to the next generation, and co-founder and Life Member of the Chrisholm Historic Farmstead in Trenton, Ohio.
