Kittleman Launches New Chapter with Next Gen Leaders
Kittleman, the firm that pioneered nonprofit executive search services, announced today that siblings Cory King and Megan Monaco have been named President & CEO and Vice President, respectively. Former CEO Rick King will assume the role of Chairman of the Chicago-based boutique firm, and will continue to serve Kittleman’s client organizations while enhancing the firm’s best practices.
“Cory and Megan are well prepared to advance and strengthen our business model,” said Rick, “which is based on serving nonprofits as partners and trusted advisors in making one of their most important decisions – choosing their next leader.”
The new brother-sister team has a unique story. Their career paths did not follow the traditional route of moving up through the ranks of a family-owned business.
Cory King, 40, served in leadership positions for nonprofits in higher education, healthcare and social services for 17 years before joining the firm as Principal in 2014. His diverse experience includes a start-up NGO in sub-Saharan Africa where he developed resources for a medical center, a children’s health and social services center and the California Institute of Technology where he served as a senior advancement officer.
“We’re in this business because we care about mission-driven organizations, we know what it takes to lead them, and we know the complexities and challenges inherent in that world,” said Cory. “We are uniquely positioned to offer counsel to organizations through their most vulnerable period – a CEO transition – because we have had years of experience doing it right,” he added.
Cory will manage the firm’s day-to-day search practice and continue to serve as one of the lead consultants on CEO recruiting engagements. In concert with Rick, he will also develop strategies and opportunities to grow Kittleman’s portfolio while honing and refining the firm’s executive search and consulting practice.
New Vice President Megan Monaco, 43, will manage Kittleman’s day-to-day operations and finances and continue to interface with clients and candidates on search assignments. Like her brother, Megan started her career in nonprofits. She has wide-ranging experience including St. Vincent DePaul Center, one of Illinois’ largest single-site nonprofit childcare centers, where she managed fundraising efforts.
At Renaissance Social Services Inc., a nonprofit specializing in low-income housing development, she was director of social services. She joined Kittleman in 2002 as Senior Associate. In this role, Megan has provided support for nearly 100 searches among a diverse group of clients, in addition to leading the firm’s marketing efforts.
“This is only the second leadership change at Kittleman in 53 years,” Megan said. Rick acquired the firm from its founder, James M. Kittleman, in 1985. “Cory and I respect the solid foundation on which Jim and Rick built this company and we take seriously this awesome opportunity to continue the tradition of excellence.”
Kittleman is unrivaled in its combined years of nonprofit expertise, focusing primarily on nonprofit sectors represented by human service and community health care; private, family and community foundations; public gardens, arboreta and land preserves; museums, science centers and historic sites; national charities and international NGOs; and conservation, environment and wildlife.
To coincide with the leadership change, Kittleman is launching a new and improved website at www.kittlemansearch.com.
